The Ten Commandments of Sailor Moon Expanded

I. Thou shalt remember thy anime and keep it holy*

The SME universe is based on the anime series and movies. If it happened on film then it is canon. That means that your stories cannot contradict or otherwise conflict with the anime continuity. You may write around what appears on film, assuming your story happens off camera but you may not perform actions which confound the Anime in any way.
*with the exception of the Sailor Moon Super S Movie

II. Thou shalt not kill... another author's characters.

Respect of other people's intellectual property is paramount to SME. If another author created it, only they have the power to destroy it. Even if you hate the other character, nobody kills nobody without permission. This also includes such things as axioms or principles. For instance, all wonders of the Ancients are indestructable.

III. Thou shalt remain consistant with established characters.

Established character traits are to be respected. Even if you feel someone got a raw deal in the Anime, it is generally accepted about the SME universe that Mina is ditzy, Ami is shy, Rei is tempramental... etc. That also goes for characters added by the authors. That is not to say that they cannot act out of character, there should just be a good reason why.

IV. Thou shalt pack out thy trash.

If your story has some impact on the main characters (the SM regulars) it must be in a way that cleans up after itself. If you bring in another character you've got to have a rational explanation for where they came from and where they go. If you bring in this character what does he do and why isn't he around during R, S, SS and Stars? Why don't the Senshi notice his absence? Why doesn't his presence or lack thereof change things? You must provide a rational to enclose the character. This is necessary to prevent conflict with other authors and the established continuity. With this in mind we add the following sub-commandments:

IV.a Thou shalt contian thy crossovers.

In order to avoid the confusion of integrating different anime series into SME it has been established that anime series in our world are also anime series in the SME universe rather than residents of SME Tokyo. However, other series can exist as characters in alternate universes accessible from SME. Take care not to violate the previous commandments.

IV.b Thou shalt not build a Senshi-Killer Character.

The senshi are the most powerful chararacters in the solar system. They represent the power of entire planets. Given that, if you develop a character that will be more or less a perminant fixture, he/she/it should not be able to kill a senshi easily or quickly. Said characters can have aspects about them that make them formidable, but let us not forget who the stars of SM are.

V. Thou shalt not commit splatterpunk

No graphic and detailed descriptions of violent death wanted. If you want to write about just what effect Mars's attacks have on the human (or inhuman) body find another mooniverse. This is writing in a Magical Girls setting and flying internal organs is not part of it.

VI. Thou shalt not commit Lemon

For the same reason as commandment five, we have decided to leave this class of story out of SME. While physical aspects of relationships can be mentioned, no graphic descriptions of same should be made. Above all, such actions should not be pointless sex scenes for sex scenes sake.

VII. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's storyline.

If someone came up with a fabulous story before you did, then it is theirs. You may be able to help out, but they are the owners with the powers expressed in commandment two.

VIII. Thou shalt resolve creative differences through discussion

If you have a story line that clashes with someone else's, you shalt discuss it with them and come to an amicable agreement. If it cannot be resolved between the two parties, it shall be put up on the public forum and debated. If the matter still cannot be laid to rest, a vote by the authors of SME shall be taken and the will of the majority shall stand.

IX. Render unto logic that which is logic's.

That is to say, thy actions upon the world shall have reasonable, logical consequences and those must be addressed. If you have a character perform some act recognise that a cause and effect relationship exists. If a character breaks the law, kills, or other such serious events, things will happen. The police will be after them. Friends may shun them, their conscious will bother them. Simply put, don't write a character blowing someone away, or some other nasty thing, for no good reason and not think they are immune to the consequences of their actions. Unless they are meant to be a villian, characters shouldn't break laws more than necessary. Of course there are exceptions but unless the characters are careful, there will be a reckoning.

X. Thou shalt have fun.

The whole purpose is to amuse both yourself and others.
